My name is Jane Tucker, I was born in General Hospital in Binghamton, New York and immediately became a ward of the state. I spent most of my childhood in West Windsor, New York and most of my teenage years in Windsor, Damascus, and Deposit, New York. In addition, I lived for two years in Las Cruces, New Mexico. And that's enough about that . . . let's fast forward to high school graduation.
I graduated from Deposit Christian Academy in 1984 and attended Valley Forge Christian College for an undergraduate degree in education. At VFCC I was heavily involved in sports and was part of the volleyball and basketball teams all four years and participated in softball for two years. I also revived and became editor of the school paper, The Patriot. In addition, I was a Sergeant on VFCC's campus security force from 1986-1988.
After graduating from VFCC, I worked at Jameway, Inc. as a loss prevention officer and manager in training and at Wawa, Inc. It was at Wawa that I met several local police officers who encouraged me to apply and test for the position of police officer. In February 1990, I was hired as a probationary police officer for the Lower Merion Township Police Department in Ardmore, PA. It was the first police test I had ever taken. While a police officer, I attended West Chester University to earn my Master's in Criminal Justice (1996-1999). For more on my law enforcment career, go to my law enforcement page.
In 2002, I vested my pension at Lower Merion Township and resigned as a police officer. I started a business called Steel City Coffee House. Steel City Coffee House is a coffeehouse/ music venue located in the historic business district in Phoenixville, PA. For more on the business, check out my business ventures page.
In 2004 I started my career in education I was hired as an adjunct professor at Kutztown University. Originally, I replaced a faculty member on sabbatical, but ended up being rehired for the next three academic years (2004-2008). In the fall of 2008, they were unable to hire me back due to the hiring of tenure track faculty members. I then taught at Temple University in the spring of 2009. In the fall of 2009 I returned to Kutztown University for a one year appointment. From the spring of 2010 to August 2011, I was unemployed and working on finishing my Ph.D.
In 2011, West Chester University hired me as a tenure-track assistant professor! I am very excited to return to teaching after experiencing unemployment for over one year. You can keep updated on my teaching career through the link above (click on more).
